If you hang out at online video sites, I'm sure you've seen the hugely popular Blendtec video that takes a number of objects and shows the power that the machine has carving them up into bits. Its went totally viral online.
In just a very short time, days in fact, the company has gone from relatively little known, to somewhat of a phenomenon.
The series of videos the company created are called, "Will it Blend?" All over the web people have been watching and sharing it.
Blendtec marketing manager George Wright, who developed the idea says, "I've never seen anything that's taken off quite like this in my life."
I've watched them an it's impressive to say the least. When in the case of hard items, like marbles, are rendered into dust, you get an overall feeling of awe and desire to share it so others can partake in the experience.
When the company first introduced the videos on their company site, after 24 hours, tehy already had 23,000 hits. When it was uploaded to YouTube, it went crazy, getting over 1.7 million hits. Blendtec CEO Tom Dickson laughed mentioning that 10 days ago he didn't even know what YouTube was.
The cost of the objects that were disintegrated in their machine was around $50. In exchange the company has reached an international audience of millions.
The Alexa rating of the company increased by 108,000 spots in only 3 months. While they originally projected sales of $30 million for the year, the success of the video has gotten the sales to surge ahead of the projected pace.
The other challenge ahead of them? To make the increased awareness of their product work for them over the long haul. Viral eventually is only still as good as the product and service offered. This just gives them an opportunity to prove themselves. Still, overall it's a great success from that way of looking at it.
