In good news for online retailers, Nielsen//NetRatings reported their latest research saying that their holiday e-shopping index grew by 43% from late October to the first week of December. Toy and video games were especially selling well. They've increased by 129% from the end of October, with consumer electronics growing by 101%. Jewelry came in next increasing by a healthy 76%.
The greatest shopping day, as far as home shoppers goes, was the Sunday following Thanksgiving, with 20 million people clicking their way to bargains, a 20% increase over last year. Those that were shopping from work had the largest traffic surge on Cyber Monday with 16.1 million visitors, a 7% increase over last year.
All of that wasn't the best overall day though, as the Wednesday after
Thanksgiving has taken that honor with a huge 30 million people going online to shop, an 18% increase over last year.
Estimates are that holiday shopping will increase 5% over last year, including both offline and online, and could reach over $162 billion for the season in America.
