Google (GOOG) scored again as new data by Nielsen//NetRatings revealed that the company received about 3.1 billion search requests last month - giving it a 31% increase over last year. That brings the overall Google search share to 49.5%, according to Nielsen.
Yahoo (YHOO) didn't do bad either as research shows they made solid gains as well - taking in 1.52 billion - growing by 27% over last year. The company finished
up with a market share of 24.3% of search.
Microsoft's (MSFT) MSN dropped share again last month, finishing with only 515.5 million searches - a huge 12% decline from last year. Their total share declined to 8.2% for the year.
Merrill Lynch (MER) research analyst Justin Post said, "Feedback indicates that Google search volumes are not experiencing any ill effects from Microsoft's efforts in search and are benefiting from relative inertia in Yahoo's marketplace ahead of the Panama algorithm transition."
The next year should give an early indication if Google will lose any share of the search arena when Yahoo's Panama is more well-known and if companies embrace in a much larger way.
