The leading executive of Yahoo's (YHOO) sports and programming, David Katz, left the company last week without anybody really getting wind of it till now, according to Online Media Daily.
In other company news, the partnership with Al Gore's Current TV was also ended without anyone really knowing why.
As far as the sports programming responsibilities, Scott Moore, who is over Yahoo's news, health, finance and technology, will take that program under him as well.
Gartner Research Director Mike McGuire said: "You always expect growing pains, but these developments are adding to a feeling--Yahoo has a lot of interesting pieces, but nothing that makes them gel."
David Katz
I'm not so sure these two developments imply something bad at all yet. It could be that when Yahoo hired Katz and made the deal with Current TV, that they really didn't have a clear vision at that time. Now it could be much clearer, and the result of that clarity is that these two events happened in response.
As far as the Current TV thing, does anybody really care? Does anybody in America, or the world, care about Al Gore's TV channel? Yahoo has shown that they don't.
I don't see these as necessarily negative about Yahoo at all, but rather the possibility that they're getting things put in place for their next move. If that's the case, it will possibly cause people and agreements to no longer be in the best interests of the company and its future goals.
