A new study shows that those U.S.shoppers who visit online retail websites are more apt to shop and spend more in local stores.
ShopLocal surveyed 37,500 people and they said that continual internet usage drives customers to stores, with a full 95 percent of those that checked online for deals each week end up visiting a retail store a minimum of once a month.
Almost 70 percent of those responding said that they went online to get more information on products through online advertising before they purchased products in a store. Another 27 percent said that after viewing online marketing material they also bought online as well.
"The power of the internet has improved the quality and quantity of today's shopping experience, both for online purchasing and local in-store shopping," Bob Armour, chief marketing officer for ShopLocal, said.
Offline activity is increasing as delivery deadlines are here and shoppers doing their research are focusing their efforts in the brick-and-mortar stores.
