Barry Diller, CEO of InterActiveCorp. (IACI) communicated to Reuters that because news is increasingly moving from print newspapers to the Internet, it has tremendous upside online potential for the foreseeable future.
Diller said: "I actually think that there's going to be real opportunity in the conversion of print journalism to online, real opportunity, which I think very few
people have attacked head on."
He also said that they are going to announce a new product soon, connected to this reality, which for now he isn't going to comment about.
With IAC representing over 60 brands, it does have a foundation to go into a number of different news areas, depending on what Diller defines as "news."
It's hard to know which way the company will go because of the diverse portfolio of businesses it carries. Diller is quick to say that they are different than say a General Electric (GE) conglomerate, which is all over the map with their businesses. He says they're more of an "integrated" conglomerate. It seems he's saying that the pieces of the puzzle all connect and interrelate, rather than operate as simply stand-alone, disconnected businesses.
The company has been performing well this year, up 25% as compared with the 11% that the S&P 500 has grown so far.
