The NHL has become the first major U.S. professional sports league to go into partnership with YouTube. The NHL has agreed to supply YouTube viewers with highlight videos from its daily venue of games, plus other video clips produced by the NHL.
This is an extension of the content-sharing deal that the NHL and Google (GOOG) made earlier in the month to supply full game videos from the past and the current season, to Google Video. They also said that they plan to include user-generated video on the site as well.
As part of the partnership, YouTube and the NHL will have a revenue-sharing model for the ads that are placed next to the NHL's video clips. You can access them through search or the new video channel
created from the partnership.
YouTube is working around the clock to forge these types of deals to ward off a potential stream of copyright lawsuits. The official acquisition of YouTube was completed on Tuesday.
