Rob Garner commments on a question he was asked by a participant at the "LINKING AND OPTIMIZATION" panel at Ad:Tech Chicago in July. The question was: "Which do you think is factored more heavily by the search engines--off-page elements or on-page elements"?
Of course most of us know that links play a huge role in launching a new domain or business to get great search engine results and traffic. They also produce trust and relevant content with the search engines.
His response to the question was that with established Web sites "deeper introspection about internal optimization strategies is often more pressing than the issue of link building."
Essentially he's saying that having great links connected to your site represents what people are saying about you, and in many cases are better than what is being said within the site
In other words we're talking about content, accurate internal linking and Web page optimization. The bottom line for having developed credibility outside your Web site is that now the search engines will focus in on what you're saying throughout your site. Give them something to make them happy; it will make you even happier.
