Part 2 of an In-depth look at Niche Marketing
In considering searching out a niche that can be served and turned into a great online business, there are two ways of doing it that must be considered.
Two types of people develop niches online. One is the type that simply checks out various areas that may produce some profits, and they will then build mini-websites around that subject - most of the time using content written by others to build up the business fast. They don't usually care what the subject or niche is ... they just want to do something fast and make quick money. Most of them have dozens, if not 100 or more Web sites they run.
The other type of person is one that searches out areas that are based upon something they really like and have a genuine interest and passion about. They want to interact with people of similar interests, and offer products and services built around those interests.
The one thing I've found out about those that just create sites that they aren't interested in, they have trouble sustaining their businesses. They're always trying to hide from Google because of repeat content. They really don't have a passion for the market they serve; they're in it for the money only. Don't get me wrong, some of them make a lot of money. But they play of game of going from one thing to another as they don't have any commitment to the audience they serve.
With the other strategy, it has a better chance of becoming a long-term business that offers great opportunities to serve an engaged community of people. It will be much more consistent and will provide predictable income streams because of the depth you'll know the market.
One goes wide fast and pulls out when they tap it out, the other goes deeper for the long haul, and mines the community over and over again for years.
The point is to understand what you'll encounter when you make your choice. One is much more sustainable and predictable; the other is here today and gone tomorrow. If you like to gamble with things and don't mind living in unsurety, the first one isn't necessarily bad if you don't plan on staying around in that niche for a long time anyway.
The other one offers a much more satisfying experience, long-term results, and customer service that results from building something that lasts. Just know that these are the types of strategies that are being used by two different types of online marketers.
