The Walt Disney Co. (DIS) announced that its revenues for downloads will reach close to $700 million for their 2007 fiscal year, company executives said on their earnings call.
Disney CEO Bob Iger added that the Internet is producing a tremendous demographic for the company.
Concerning ABC.com's streaming episodes; there have been close to
19 million free downloads of the broadcast shows in the first six weeks of the new season.
Iger said: "The CPM rate, now admittedly it's early, is four to five times the CPM rate in delivery of adults 18 to 49 in prime time, which is a rather significant number and that comes because it's a rich, rich demographic associated with it, younger, higher income, but secondly the recall rates of advertising are tremendous."
Concerning the purchase of programs, Disney has done great also with around 12 million of the ABC TV programs being bought through their partnership with Apple (AAPL) iTunes since October 2005, and with movies, they've sold about 500,000 since the middle of September.
Iger also said that Disney will work on a long-term goal of relaunching the Disney.com site as a portal for travel, movies, TV, social networking, music and shopping. He figures it will be completed by January of 2007.
