At thealphamarketer one of the things we always do is talk about some of the simple things that can affect an otherwise well thought out campaign.
In the case of email, I was reading an article about the way that typos written in by visitors can dramatically determine success in what the visitor is trying to do.
For example, online retailers lose millions by not having great
safeguards in place to ensure that consumers are writing in their right email address.
The good news is that all it takes is a few tools to greatly decrease the email typo problem. Here are three easy ways to do it.
1. Confirmation
Here you can either have a confirmation page, or a confirmation input box right below the original input box. I have numerous times been saved from signing up incorrectly for things by having these secondary controls in place.
2. Size of input box
With the average email address being a little over 20 characters; it is really helpful to make sure that the box is longer than that so people can see what they are inputting fully.
3. Real-time address correction
There is technology you can put in place that performs automatic email address correction. If you have any significant traffic at all, or a highly targeted, responsive audience, I would highly recommend putting this in place.
When you think of how hard you work and the time and effort put into creating products and services, these are the types of things that can make the difference between success and failure. A lot of online success is in the details; here's a way you can increase those odds.
