AOL CEO Jonathan Miller, who announced that he was leaving the company, has been replaced with NBC executive Randy Falco.
Time Warner (TWX) chairman and CEO Dick Parsons commented: "A key to Time Warner's digital future, AOL is showing early success in transitioning to an advertising-focused business model, and Randy is a
first-rate choice to ensure AOL realizes its promise."
Falco is the president and COO of the NBC Universal Television Group, and was the mover behind pushing forward NBC's online strategies. He initiated the plan to begin offering short video clips to a number of Web sites through the new NBBC division.
With AOL in a long-term transitional period, they needed someone that has gone through a similar period where a company had to forge ahead in the midst of disruptions. Part of Falco's responsibilities at NBC were also in marketing in sales; both with the network and cable.
AOL has found that things are happening quicker than they thought, and thus the need to get someone in there quickly that could help it on its way. Falco should be a good choice for the company.
