A Niche Business Constantly Needs to be Pruned
Running a business is running something that is alive. You can never quite let it go on its own. Now you can get it to the place where it can almost do it, but never completely.
Think of it like having a big tree that you continually must take care of. One thing about trees, they need to be pruned. Think of your business that way. It's a
steady job of watching the tree grow, and then looking to see if the branches are growing in the right way or if they're getting too long, too thick or aren't getting enough nourishment. Maybe you even want to graft something onto it.
A business cannot be left to grow like a wild tree in the forest or wilderness, it would just end up being something disjointed, branches going in every direction, no symetry, no purpose and nothing anybody would want anything to do with.
The great thing about pruning, is that when it's done, the tree or shrub grows back fuller and more healthy than ever.
Many times businesses will fall in love with certain products or services that need to be pruned. When they are kept as part of the business, they become something in the way of the whole tree being healthy and beautiful. Don't be afraid to prune within your business. Many times cutting back will really be getting ready to enlarge.
