Separate Yourself from the Pack
When you're dealing with competitors, there is always something you must have that separates you from them in your customers eyes.
We've already talked about customer service being one of the major differentiators in letting people see and experience the difference between you and your competitors.
The other thing you need to have is your expertise. Know what you're into inside and out. You must be able to give sound advice that makes a difference to your customers, or know where they can get advice if it's beyond you. A lot of companies are built upon the strength of knowing where to send people when they need help.
Hopefully you'll be aligned with them in some type of joint venture or affiliate program so you can get the benefits of that also.
Still, to be an expert in the niche you serve, is a great advantage that you'll have over most competitors that just don't want to go that far into the field you compete in.
