One time in an unrelated field, a mentor mentioned to me something that has stuck with me throughout the years. He said, "Once people get a piece of you, they want all of you." He was referring to those that really believe in your integrity and what you have to offer.
Now when I say integrity, I'm talking about being true to what you represent and consistent in your outlook with it. Fans demand that you be true to you. If they didn't believe you were, they wouldn't be fans in the first place. We need to be careful not to get too cute over changing things that alienate our core people we market to.
This is the reason why getting visitors to our online offerings can never be enough. It can temporarily make us some money, but having an audience alone can never build a business.
The reason you should want to have fans is because you can offer products or services across the entire spectrum of pricing and they will want to get a piece of it. The mentor I mentioned to you has stuff from a few dollars for something all the way up to $20,000 for coaching. The fans don't care; they want a part of everything they can get from him and are willing to pay for it.
Do you know what you're really trying to do when you market, advertise, and do PPC and the rest? You're really looking for your fans. You may not know it, but you are.
It's better and more profitable to have 1,000 fans then it is to have 20,000 eyeballs. Be true and consistent in what you represent and you'll find the fans that you're looking for. Once you find them, understand that you can't deviate from the core values that are represented in the group. Follow this and you'll be set for life!
