Online retailers are starting their promotions earlier this year, says AXcess News, citing a survey by BizRate. A full 38.5% of are starting promotions earlier, with a huge 62.5% asserting they are beginning before November 4th.
One of the reasons for the change is that a large number of consumers (20%) are saying that they plan to shop for their Holiday gifts earlier this year, with another 35% saying they will start by Halloween.
Scott Silverman, Executive Director of Shop.org said:
"Due to shipping deadlines, online retailers have a shorter promotional window for the holiday season, so many of them want to be first out of the gate to debut holiday merchandise, multichannel retailers are very good at responding to what their customers want and, this year, customers want to start shopping early."
Another important trend the study identified is that one of the major factors in deciding whether a customer will buy online is the shipping policy of the company. Free or discounted shipping, with or without conditions, is the specific preference of buyers. This year, approximately 83 percent of retailers are offering this incentive.
