Six Apart has been in beta for the last several months testing a new blogging to specifically targeted to those who want to publish online, but to only those that they want to see it.
You can publish images, video, text and audio if you choose, and share it only with those you feel would enjoy it. The service will be free, and will be called Vox. It is built with users over 25 in mind, as other businesses already cater to the privacy crowd among younger users.
It will be introduced in the United States, Japan and France, with additional countries added early in 2007.
"Not everything has to be published for public consumption," said Mena Trott, who with her husband Ben co-founded Six Apart in 2002. "Everyone has their own assumptions about blogs. We think it is about publishing the stuff you care about to the people you care about."
One of the main features of the tool is the five levels of privacy settings. Every item that is published on the blog has a privacy setting that can be put into place.
With literally hundreds of templates offered on the site, it is built for ease-of-use and simplicity. It should be great for parents, but I could see some practical applications for quick, private, online meetings and discussions for the professional user also.
