Yahoo Mail is exploding in its online display ad impressions as it has 41.4 percent of all impressions in August, according to Online Media Daily. That is over twice as many as the nearest competitor, MySpace, which took in 16.1 percent of all display ads. MSN Hotmail came in third place last month with 7.8 percent.
For Yahoo (YHOO), this was a huge increase, as in July they took in 32.9 percent; almost a 9 percent increase over that short time period. It was even impressive compared to last years August total of 7.6 of all ad impressions that Yahoo took in.
In August the most prolific online advertisers were Financial services with 28 percent of all online display advertising. Retail services were next with 18 percent of all display ads. In third was Web media with 14
percent of the display advertising. Those three spaces accounted for 60 percent of all online display advertising.
The overall number of CPM display ads tracked by Nielsen came to 233.5 billion, an increase of over 50 billion from July of 2006.
