In case you've missed it, the world of advertainment is upon us. The thirst and hunger for cool, neat stuff to watch, especially over the Internet, is insatiable at this time. Smart marketers are already engaging this reality.
Let's just nail down the simple, basic difference between old and new marketing; at least for those who get it.
It is real simple to understand, but hard to put into practice. The difference? Old marketing used and still uses advertisements that distract people in order to sell their products or services. New marketing offers value to the viewer through entertaining while they're selling, so the consumer doesn't feel like they are being interrupted. That's it!
Like everything else though; success is in the details. It's not my purpose in this post to get into the details, because at this time the details are being experimented with as to the most valuable way it can be done for the consumer and the marketing company.
The thing to get is that the foundation to success in marketing, both now and in the future, will be connected to the simple reality that people hunger for an experience that enhances the moment they are now in. If it doesn't add something to them, they will consider the presentation, in whatever format, as an intrusion. As a result they will resent what you did to them; even if it wasn't your intention.
In other words, along with the entertainment value of your offering, you'll need to know your customers and viewers, even better than you ever had. That's why metrics is a growing tool that will tell you the story of what they want. Make sure you pay attention to the story that's being told. Not everyone will want to be told the same story.
