In a move to increase its online sales and profits, NBC Universal has announced that it is ready tolaunch its new initiative to distribute video footage on the Internet. It is not only using its own affilates' material, but is looking to use other media companies material as well.
They have called the new venture NBC Broadband Co. or nbbc. Its purpose is to offer other media companies the opportunity to compete against growing Internet companies like YouTube.
They are looking for companies that meet specific quality and size requirements in order to qualify to use the material.
Those that qualify will be able to receive the video clips free and will get a piece of the advertising sales.
Randy Falco, president of NBC Universal Television Group said, "In the future, when you have a 'Lazy Sunday' clip, it'll end up on nbbc and we'll make a lot of money off it." Do you think that this will make any significant inroads into the current video sites?
