Local online advertising will continue to be the fastest growing online ad category, according to MediaPost citing a report from Borrell Associates.
The report states that local online advertising should increase by 32 percent in 2007, bringing the overall total to $7.7 billion.
Within the local online ad category, paid search will still be the fastest-growing, being expected to about double to $1.8 billion. It will
surge to 25 percent of all local online ad spend.
Borrell adds that the local email market will grow by a huge 54 percent, to reach $233 million.
The combination of local email and search will eventually be 50 percent of all local online ad spending. They also say that by 2010 there will probably be a flattening out of the growth when the market reaches around $10 billion.
Online content aggregators are among the ones benefiting from this trend the most. The online newspapers are one of those taking in a lot of the action. Think of local content that you can put together that will draw people to your site and you will be part of a trend that is going to be strong for at least several more years.
