A number of online marketers that used certain tricks and strategies in the past, have found that those same tricks don't work today; especially in reference to keywords and links.
One of the tricks in the past was that once you found your keywords, you would put them in page titles, descriptions and meta tags. But it would be done in a way that sacrificed readability for keyword density. In other words, the pages would have an enourmous amount of the same words repeated throughout the content. The search engines have caught onto this and responded to it by searching for pages that have a natural flow of words and keywords in your titles, descriptions and meta tags, that are related to your content. Doing it the old way won't invite the most recent web crawlers.
In the area of links, it is increasingly important that we have links that make sense to the web crawlers. It is similar to the strategy concerning keywords; it must make sense and be integrated.
For example, if you hire a linking service to create reciprocal links, don't allow it to be a randomized campaign. The web crawlers today look at sites where the links coming in relate to the content of your Web page and offerings.
So if you were selling coffee; coffee-makers, coffee beans, and various drinks and related items would be great links. If the links coming in had no relationship whatsoever to your offerings, they would be penalized as a result.
Search engines recognize when unrelated links are coming into a site and respond accordingly. It is better today to have less links that have a high quality, than a lot of links that make no sense. Keep with the better links and your rankings will be much higher.

Then what will? Any idea, please tell me... because I'm considering venturing into AdSense... :)
