Book publishers are beginning to branch out with their marketing efforts through streaming, what could be called "book trailers" in the similar vein as movie trailers, hoping to expand their market.
Marketing Vox reports:
"Random House, Workman Publishing, Scholastic and other publishers are running videos on sites catering to readers as well as general-interest sites such as Yahoo and YouTube to cheaply promote their books, writes the New York Times. Some firms offer to film and place book videos for as little as $4,000, and one online publishing information service, VNU's The Book Standard, has devised a contest for film students, who compete to make the book videos."
Random House unit Bantam Dell ran a series in which Dean Koontz told funny stories about writing and editing.
Once the video is produced, it is run as part of the content and not as advertsing, so it's totally free. They won't have to pay for those who click on them. The videos, which will end up in the archives of the site, make it a tremendous value to those creating and promoting their products through them.
These are things that we all really need to look at. Think of the promotions you could freely offer through video upload sites that could be around the web and watched over long periods of time. The great thing is that you don't need to spend huge amounts of money to make this happen.
Add a little tip or extra value, along with your offering, and people will be glad to watch your presentation. This has tremendous opportunity. You can try and experiment with all sorts of things to find out what works best, and with very little costs. The time to do this is now!
Have there been some interesting things that you have tried that have worked really good using video sites?
