To me one of the most overlooked and undertalked about SEO strategies with blogs or websites is internal links.
Let's talk about links that we initiate ourselves today. That is a great strategy, by the way, when you write articles or post to find points in your other articles or posts to link to from what you're writing about today.
"It's thought that the search engines, including Google, Yahoo, and MSN Search place varying, but high degrees of importance on internal site links. It seems logical that search engines would credit internal posts and articles, as links to internal pages are a strong indicator of valuable and important site or blog content. As a result, they help boost the blog or site's search engine rankings. Both the linked page and the overall site or blog benefit."
Remember that the more descriptive phrases you use, the more beneficial and powerful they are in results. Using words like "read here" or "go here" are not the way to do it.
One thing we bloggers especially can find easy to forget is the right way to write our anchor text. We concentrate so much on the content of what we publish that we neglect this aspect of the process to our own hurt.
So write descriptive anchor text to guide the search engines to what you want. It's as simple as that but hard to remember among all our other duties. Write it down if you have to because it is something that many online marketers fail to do. It's another arrow in your marketing quiver that gives you that extra edge.
This is what's so great about internal linking, you have great input and control over where it goes and what is said. The more you do it, the better it will be for your website or blog ratings.
