When talking about online marketing, thealphamarketer always talks about building a lasting business. But there is still a strategy that can be used that you can get a quick windfall with. The key in all of that is understanding the difference between the two.
One example is the recent 1000-word page site that was made to attract those who wanted to take one of the words and point it to a URL. At the time of this writing it looks like they have sold 32 words so far. They offer them at different prices for different size fonts.
Joel Comm jumped on this and created the 500 word site. He sold it out quick and is now offering the 499sites business that offers not only words but phrases.
The point here is that this is a fad business, although one that can bring in some quick money. This won't be something that can sustain itself in that it is so easy to create and operate that it will become a commodity soon. Still it is worthwhile doing for some quick money.
As long as you understand that this type of offering is short-term and will not last, you can use it to great advantage. Now if you're a real creative person, you could create a lasting business by coming up with short-term strategies like this and implementing off and on.
Once everyone starts to copy them or they lose a lot of their effectiveness, you should have something else in place to begin your next campaign. Overall these types of things can be fun and not involve too much maintanence once people understand what it is that's happening and the benfit to them.
