The FCC released a report saying that the number of high-speed internet users in the U.S. exploded in 2005.
The report revealed that broadband grew by 33 percent or over 12 million connections last year to over 50 million lines.
Reuters said that there were more people getting DSL from the phone companies than cabel modem connections from the cable companies.
A total of 5.7 DSL lines were increased in 2005, whereas only 4.2 million used cable as their choice. Cable dropped by three and a half percentage points to 57.5, and DSL increased by almost the same amount to 40.5 percent of market share.
Of the over 50 million users, almost 43 million served residential end users.
