According to a new study released by Pew Internet & American Life Project, bloggers are almost insatiable when it comes to searching out online news.
One example showed that 95% of bloggers read news online in comparison to 73 percent of general Internet users. Amanda Lenhart, senior research specialist at Pew said, "Bloggers are avid consumers of online media, they are consuming online media in a way that even other online users do not."
Almost 50% of bloggers added that they read other blogs for their news, whereas only 9% of all online surfers do. Another 55% said that they include reading ezines or or other feeds as part of their daily routine, where only 29% of the rest of Internet users do.
Included in the report was the question asking bloggers why they blogged. The first reason was to express themselves, which was a high 77%. About the same percentage said they used it as a diary, to put down their various experiences.
Surprisingly, only 15% of bloggers said they did it for the purpose of making money.
Blog readership is growing steadily as last year Pew reported that 7% of American online adults blogged, while 27% read them. Now it has grown to 8% of Internet users (around 12 million U.S. adults) blog, and about 39% (57 million U.S. adults) now read them.
