How are you Different?
We talked a couple of days ago about how big companies on the internet are becoming more commoditized every day. Here is a good example from todays news stories.
YouTube said that it aims to move beyond depending on the latest hit videos, which spread like wild fire across the Internet via e-mail. Instead, it wants to create a personalized programming experience akin to TV viewers surfing channels with a remote control.
Yahoo Inc. is making it easier for Web surfers to find videos by upgrading its search system to become more like saving favorite TV channels with a remote control, the company said on Wednesday.
Like I've said before, technology will not be the differentiator any more with online businesses. Other than getting an extremely short, irrelevant start on their competitors, the rest simply copycat and they're all the same again.
Think of concepts besides technology as the thing that makes you different, that will be the idea that will separate you in the eyes and thoughts of your customers.
