Lee Odden talks on his online marketing blog about a trick that is being used to try to mask those offers of link exchanges and make them look like article exchanges are something different.
Here's an excerpt from an email offering this to him recently:
"As an ongoing process to increase the link popularity of my sites, I am looking for some good high quality article exchange with my client’s site.
"I recently came across your site through search and found it beneficial and informative for our site’s visitors. I would like to offer you a content link exchange with my site."
What is happening is that they use the term "article exchange" in place of link exchange. What is basically being suggested is that articles be exchanged with links embedded in them. Same old link exchange inside an article.
As Lee says, if this being sent in emails, it is probably already being used by the aggressive SEOs out there. I wouldn't recommend that you fall into this at all as it has the same risks with it that link exchanges do. I would never use it on any of my sites or recommend to others either.
