Doing Press Releases Right

pr release.jpgOne of the most underrated search engine marketing techniques is the use of press releases. They really work well to get clicks, but they must be done right.

The reason they work so well and are a great strategy is because of who they appeal to and why. Those who run businesses and executive within business, search for their new from the online news sites more than anything other online source. They search Google News, MSN News and Yahoo News, among others.

These sites pick up news headlines from thousands of sources all over the world. Included with that is the news generated from the wire services that offer releases for journalists. So if you put out a press release through major wire service providers, it will be picked up by the big online news services.

According to Marketing Sherpa, here are the 3 main tips that will drive more traffic to your site:

1. Use a keyword in your headline

Executives are not looking for generic or general terms, rather they are searching for news about:

- Your brand name
- Your stock ticker
- Technical terms associate with your product or services
- Your CEO's name
- Descriptive terms from their own industry or job function

So, instead of simply having a headline that reads, "XYZ Corporation Offers Webinar", you probably want to say something like, "XYZ Corporation Offers Webinar for IT Security Professionals on Repairing XYZ Breach Factors".
