The Alpha Marketer![]()
Because there is so much press coverage of SEO, it often blurs what the purpose of SEO is. Sure you want to get someone to arrive at your home page, but if they don't do what you want them to do, it is irrelevant whether they get there or not.
We talk about it a lot here but it's worth going over quickly again concerning what your home page looks like. Keep iin mind that visitors are searching for convenience, ease-of-use, helpful information and security. If any of these things are missing, they will leave your page quick. A slow loading home page will also keep visitors from sticking around.
How do you know if they are doing what you want? You've got to have a system in place that measure everything that is happening once a visitor arrives. Do you know what percentage of visitors is clicking to the interior of your site? If it's a low percentage, you'll know that you need to do something to up that percentage.
In that particular situation you will need to look at everything you're measuring on the home page and break it down to find out why so many are leaving without taking the action you created the page for. Is it too complicated? The page too long with too much information? Slow loading? Is the navigation complicated?
Measuring the various elements on the page will help you to determine the problem and show you what needs to be done to correct it.
