Ask.com, in response to the growing market for tracking the latest post on blogs, is adding new tools to become a larger competitor in this area.
They will be offering, starting Thursday, a specialty channel that zeroes in on content that is posted on blogs only.
What has happened is that the constant adding of content to blogs reveals weaknesses in the traditional way search and indexing is done.
Ask says that they believe that the way they do it will do a more efficient joy of going through all the blogs than other search engines are currently doing. They are going to rely on Bloglines.com, which they own, to get a lot of their results.
With the upgrade Ask.com says that it will be able to index over 1.5 billion blog posts, still not near its largest (blogosphere) competitor Technorati who claims it indexes 2.5 billiong links from over 42 million Web sites. comScore Media Metrix says that Technorati also draws 4.5 million visitors a month while bloglines is at 160,000.
Ask.com says that it has its focus on targets much larger than Technorati.
