A lot of people, for vanity reasons, like to get a brand new domain name that they have created. It makes them feel real good when they think of what they've done. There is only one problem with this in the online marketing world: it guarantees that you will be slow to get traffic from the search engines.
The reason why is that it takes about anywhere from 9-12 months before a new site is shown in the Google keyword phrases that are meaningful to you.
For example with Google (GOOG), they have their aging delay connected to all new domains. The easiest way to overcome this is to buy an existing domain if you can come close to what it is you want to do in the name.
Of course many times even that isn't relevant. Just look at, well, Google. That has absolutely no meaning in and of itself. As a matter of fact oddball, no-meaning names work better most of the time than a name about your specific topic.
What happens if you simply can't find something or don't want to do this? The only other option for really quick, fast traffic is through pay per click ads. That can overcome any name you have if you do it right without using your entire budget.
If you combine the two it will even work better, as you have an existing domain that is already indexed, plus a PPC campaign bringing in lots of traffic. Just make sure that everything is looking good on your site and functioning correctly. You'll really be surprised at how quickly your business can take off.
