No matter how small or big your online business is, press releases will always be a great way to get noticed. Something most business owners think of with press releases is that they are initiated at the start of a business. That thought is wrong and limiting.
Think of the numerous things you could do that would be interesting and worthy of a press release. There are a thousand things you could come up with that readers would like to investigate. Come up with some type of event just for the purpose of sending out a press release.
What's the most effective way to do it?
The thing not to do which is worse than not doing it at all, is to send out an advertisement for a product or service. Not only is in counterproductive, but it can get you banned from some good press release sites. I personally hate reading something that sound interesting that a company is doing and go to the release and read a keyword infested document that describes a product, service and the company about 20 times in a 200 - 300 word document. I can say that I leave as quickly as possible and to this day don't remember one of those releases.
You must write something that is worthy of being news and will draw in your audience. Write persuasively and passionatly with a clarity that people can easily grasp. Make sure it's easily believed and doesn't make false promises or boasts.
The title and opening paragraph are the most important and will determine if your release even gets read. Let the title be brief, but inform the reader what's about to follow. It helps to use words that grab the viewer. What you write in the first paragraph should be determined by who you are trying to reach. Unless it's a small niche, your release should be broad and appeal to the largest amount of people possible.
One interesting thing about press releases is that you must find a balance between writing one too long or too short. Too long and they won't go to the site because they already have enough information, too short and you may not draw enough interest for them to click to your site; which is the purpose of the release.
A good release can really draw targeted traffic to your site. Use it as part of your marketing arsenal.
