I was reading in some forums and blog comment areas recently, and am getting concerned about the hype that's beginning to take on characteristics of the 2000 bust.
Here is one of the more prevalent thoughts that some like to bring up that is ignorant.
Now usually these debates center around the so-called Web 2.0 hype. Many are starting to realize that a lot of it is just a bunch of nonsense and the detractors don't like them saying that.
Their arguments go something like this: We're supposed to go out there and just try all sorts of different things to see which ones will stick. In other words produce whatever you can and after that see if it works out.
This is a really faulty way of thinking and misunderstanding of what these concepts really mean. Those gurus that have talked about just throwing stuff out there to see if it will work, aren't talking from the point-of-view of simply throwing anything together and then seeing if it works.
What they mean is that you do as much research as possible to make sure that there is a market for what you're offering, then you create products and services around the conclusions you make from your research of consumers. The throwing of things out there concept is based upon solid research, not just making whatever you feel like and hoping you get lucky.
So in your online business and marketing campaigns, don't just blindly throw stuff out to the market, you might as well go gambling in Vegas with your money if that's all you're doing. Rather, do solid research and make decisions based upon your research. Then, based upon that you can throw out various products and services to see what will stick. That's the real way to online success.
