The research company Nielsen/Net Ratings reported that for the month of February 2006, Google once again has shown a dominating market presence with 48.5 percent of all searches being requested through them.
Yahoo came in second with 22 percent with MSN 10.7 percent coming in third. Overall, including the minor player like AOL and My Way Search, things have stayed the same as it has been for a while.
One interesting note is that Michael Lanz VP, Search industry solutions at Nielsen/Net Ratings said that there was a significant increase in the number of searches conducted by each person. Users have increased the use of search services by a huge 30 percent over the same time period last year, from February of 2005.
The biggest area of growth is being found in the graphics and photo arena - 91 percent, where Google dominated with a 71.9 percent of inquiries, while Yahoo was second again with 19.1 percent. Another area of tremendous growth has been in the comparison shopping field, according to Lanz.
Lanz also added that this year should see a significant increase in video content searches as that area of the Internet is starting to grow exponentially.
We can no longer think of searches as relating to text alone.
