
If you don't think that online marketing and business isn't changing drastically, take a look at the deal that was announced recently between Major League Baseball and Signatures Network. I posted on it on one of my other blogs bizofshowbiz.com.
But it brings up a question that immediately came to my mind, what is online marketing and business becoming? Here we have a major sport franchise entering into the business of online business management for a music company. Baseball is handling the infrastructure and mechanics of the deal.
I don't know about you, but doesn't that make you think? Who would even think that major league baseball would be an Internet management competitor? What is baseball anymore? Are the games becoming a backdrop and incidental to all but the most diehard fans?
On the other side of the equation we could ask about what the music industry is becoming. This particular partnership has created something that we can't be quite sure of what its identity is. Who is it a competitive threat to?
Is there something here to grab hold of for us online marketers? If this is a synergy that works, are there things for us to look at that we didn't even think of before? Let us know your thoughts. I think that there is something more here than immediately can be seen.
