
he Pew Internet and American Life Project conducted a study that shows three out of four adults in America now use the Internet. This is up from 66 percent in January of 2005. That's really a huge increase over a relatively short time period.
In another fast-growing area, broadband is now used by 42 percent of Americans which is up from 29 percent in January of 2005 also.
All of this is significant for your online marketing purposes, depending on what products and services you offer. We all need to change our way of thinking that the Internet is primarily a young male demographic any longer. Obviously, in certain areas this is still true, but overall, that corner has already been turned, and we need to adjust accordingly.
Especially with the more mature demographic, I would really start to think of ways that would reach them that are much different than reaching a younger audience.
While some people offer the ability to change the font size, many don't. That is a simple thing that you could add that would enhance the value of your site to those that have a harder time reading smaller fonts.
It is numerous little things like that which could make the difference between you being a destination site for more mature viewers, versus getting little of their business. Just remember one thing: in spite of all the hype about reaching certain demographics, the mature crowd has far more disposable income than anyone out there.
