Guy Kawasaki
It is interesting to note recently that Guy Kawasaki mentioned how hard it is to make money on blogs. Here is how he puts it:
"It's hard to make money blogging. The advertising revenues don't add up to much, but there are other significant rewards like helping people change the world..
"Finally, a little story for you: At 11:00 pm a few weeks ago, my wife asked me, “What are you doing?” I wish I could have said, “Making money.” Instead I told her, “I'm changing the world, 15,000 people at a time.” To which she deadpanned, “Oh, you're blogging again...”
Darren Rowse
Darren Rowse also mentions concerning his popular problogger.net that he makes very little from it:
"Remember I have 20 blogs and these figures are not just for this blog (in fact this blog makes very little)."
In my research around the net, I have found this to be a consistent theme among those that have been doing it awhile.
Before you get discouraged, I need to add something to these statements: it is specific types of blogs that don't make much money.
Think of the two guys I've used as examples here, Guy has close to 7,000 visitors a day average and Darren between 5 and 6,000 on problogger.net. That means that Guy has around 200,000 a month and Darren around 170,000. Both of them say on those two specific blogs that they make very little. We'll explore the reason why on next post.
