Let's look at the reason that these sites perform this way.
The greatest reason that these sites don't make much money is their popularity itself: people really like to read them and get a lot out of them. What? Say that again! You heard it right. Blogs that are really well read, don't monetize very well.
Why not? People that really come to read indepth on a blog or website, have less of a desire to click on the type of advertising that is offered. In other words they are coming with the thought of staying at least for a little while.
Weird isn't it? The very popularity of a blog keeps it from making much money.
If you don't think this is true, check out the great majority of well-known bloggers that get read well and they'll tell you the same thing.
Now how do they afford to do what they do both time-wise and monetarily? Now that's the right question. They do it because the purpose of the site or blog isn't to make much money.
In the cases of Darren and Guy, they are two different blogs that do different things. For Guy it has a built in base to promote his books, while with Darren it leads to other sites that are the real money-makers.
With Guy I don't know if the promotion of books is his underlying theme or not, but it is there nonetheless. With Darren it is most definitely the strategy. By the way, this is a little secret that the pros don't like to talk much about. Now you know it. You can make a lot of money by following these strategies.
Next time I'll give you an excellent case study of a tremendously successful website that uses this with great success.
