Here's some data if your main focus in who you're marketing to is teens. In a report from Forrester, it does say that blogging in general is booming among North American teens from ages 13 to 17 years of age. Of those teens online, one out of five teens now regularly read blogs, while 13% publish their own. This is in comparison to 10% and 6% of adults.
Steve Rubel at mircropersuasion says "Here's the rub though. RSS feeds currently suffer from very low awareness among both youth and adults. As you can see from the chart below, the vast majority haven't even heard of RSS. However, Forrester says adoption is poised to grow rapidly as consumers better understand its use. Education has to play a role in getting more students using feeds. I wonder what the studies in India and China would reveal."
While we are in this transitional period, it would be good for those reaching out to teens to consider the fact that for a season of time not many teens will be adopting the RSS feeds, until news about them reaches further and to a wider audience.
I wouldn't be too quick to overly rely upon RSS feeds in marketing to teens until they become a much larger part of the mainstream online experience.
