As of yesterday Microsoft has officially entered into the classified ads venue. Once it was operating under the code-name

“Microsoft hopes that its approach of tying free classifieds to social networks allows it to differentiate its product in an increasingly crowded market. Google recently launched a classifieds-oriented service at Google Base. Meanwhile, aggregators such as Edgeio, Oodle and Indeed are trying to unseat players like Craigslist, eBay and newspaper classifieds providers.”
David Wallace adds that “Users will be able to see ads from people in their social network or search geographically such as by a radius of miles surrounding a certain zip code.”
Garry Wiseman, the product unit manager for Windows Live Expo at Microsoft said this, "What sets Windows Live Expo apart is that people can set their own search parameters for goods and services. They can define their own marketplace universe."
I know that there is a tremendous push in the area of how the Internet can be best used for local marketing. The geographical search aspect of the service looks like it has some potential in that area.
The customizable feature looks very attractive also. I’m looking forward to trying this and seeing how it delivers.
