There is one thing about online marketers in the area of SEO, they never give up. The problem is that a number of SEO scam artists know that and take advantage of that tenacity, to the detriment of the receiver of the service.
In my research concerning legitimate SEO companies, there are a couple of things to keep in mind, and you should do ok.
The first thing to remember is that any good company will give you an honest opinion about the business you have online, plus the site itself. They will tell you their thoughts on whether they think SEO will be any help to you. A number I know of look at the business and the way it is set up online and refuse to offer their service. These are honest, smart people.
If your site isn't set up right, it won't matter how high you're listed in the results, you're not going to get much business. Period!
Another thing about this is that those that are honest with you can be great teachers on what to do to make the deal doable. If you listen to what they say, and follow through with it, you not only improve your online business, but make yourself ready for placement that means something and will bring results.
The other things honest SEO companies do is to let you know that there is no way they can promise you a top rating. It is impossible to guarantee. There is no way they can say to you that they have any type of direct control over your placement. This doesn't mean that a good company can't get you a good placement, just that to promise it, is irresponsible and not honest.
Another thing to consider is that the companies that I talk to say that to do it right on a consistent basis isn't cheap by any means, it costs thousands a month to do it continuously and keep you with a high rank.
A major thought is to realize that SEO, while it is hyped by many that it is the end-all of online success, really aren't honest at all. The key is to do a number of things that complement one another and give various avenues that combined give you success.
Keep these thoughts in mind to keep you from being scammed by certain types of SEO hucksters.
