Google revealed a new site Tuesday that will feature financial news and content, which will enter it into a very large, growing market which its rivals, especially Yahoo have had its way with for quite a while.
There is a current trial version of the site at finance.google.com which now has content from other financial news services, which inludes Reuters, CNet, Forbes, Bloomberg among a number of others. The Web site also provides various tools such as charts and reports which are provided by rival Yahoo.
There are some other features such as blogs and a discussion board which will be displayed on the results page of a search for specific companies.
In the area of results, Google keeps its current model they use in the news business, as the site directs the seekers to their partners sites to read their content and offers up no ads on Google's own pages.
As many of you may know Google has been busy this year as they have launched a video store and bought up dMark Technologies for the purpose of getting into the radio ad business which are only a couple of many things that Google is branching off into.
Google's push into this area points out the importance and demand for financial and business news to consumers. According to Nielsen/NetRatings, traffic to financial sites has been increasing greatly as it was up 10% in February alone in comparison to 3% for all other Web sites.
The other great side of all of this is that advertising revenue is up greatly on financial Web sites, in spite of costs being up around 20%.
Think about your online business and how Google is doing things. They understand what most successful business owners do: you've got to offer several types of products or services to hedge against things possibly slowing down in one area, so that a growth area can keep your business growing. It's nothing more complicated than that!
