
In a recent study by WebSideStory, it was revealed that Internet search power Google, refers almost 75% of searches performed in the U.K. and furthermore controls the great majority of searches performed in Europe.
The study discovered that in the month of February 2006, Google referred just under 75% of all U.K. visitors to other sites as compared to just over 9% for its closest competitor.
This is actually over the normal average that Google performs at as in the U.S. the average for February was just over 55% and the overall global average was 62.4%.
The Chief Marketing Officer fro WebSideStory, Rand Schulman said that "Even more so in the U.K. than in the U.S., when people think of search, they think of Google. This has large implications for U.K. marketers, whose search engine marketing and optimization strategies should be Google-centric."
In comparison the other top performers in the same market, in the context of search referrals, are Yahoo (9.30%), MSN (5.46%), AOL (4.21%) and Ask Jeeves (2.28%).
