If you were to listen to naysayers, you would think that affiliate marketing was a low-level ponzi scheme that bilks their users out of their finances.
One of the problems in any area of business, when you're researching what will work best in your niche, is that you'll always come across the "watchdog" groups. In the name of your best interests, they'll be glad to tell you how bad any area that they claim to be watching is.
When you get into the area of affiliate marketing, this can ring especially true. Their seems to be an endless array of attacks on this as a marketing and business strategy from numerous corners. But keep in mind that there isn't any area of business that you couldn't attack and find those that are there to take advantage of you.
Shawn Collins talks about this in a post that reveals some of the motivation behind why some attack the affiliate marketing model as a whole without distinguishing between good programs and programs that are simply worthless. Lumping something into a whole is always an irresponsible way to look at things.
One of the key points that Shawn makes is that those that have a "vested interest in CPM and search" are behind a lot of the attacks.
This wouldnt surprise me as I've mentioned before on this blog that it is one of the most valuable of strategies to implement an affiliate program, as it is one of a number of pieces that can give you online success.
There are those out there that are trying to make search the end-all of online marketing strategy, and it's just not true. Again, search is just one of a number of things that needs to be done to ensure success.
