3 Trends affecting SEO

As many of you know, one of the basic skills you need for SEO is concerning keyword research and along with that, word association; it is knowing what words people will use to look for your product or service, then the ability to put together a number of keyword combinations that will describe those products or services.

In the world of SEO, there are three trends that you need to be aware of: the searches are going short, extended, and multilingual.

1. Short. The online world is being continuously influenced by cell-phone messaging and BlackBerrys. In response to this quite a lot of people are beginning to use a style of shorthand that will cut out vowels or replace the sounds of words with numbers. You should plan on adapting to this reality and plan for the increase in abbreviation varieties of language.

2. Extended.  On the other side of the spectrum, searchers are now beginning to use much more specific words in their queries. There is a higher level of precision being used so that the searchers can cut down on the endless options that are irrelevant. For example instead of “baseball bat”, they may say “baseball bat little league metal”.

In response to this apply the long-used method of using multiple two-keyword phrases placed prudently throughout the metas, titles, links and text. If you do this right the two-word phrases could be mixed and coordinated to create a number of combinations of significant phrases that the searchers could use.

3. Multilingual. You need to be aware that there have been strong advances in natural language search and focus on providing multilingual services either directly or by reference.

In the area of SEO, these are three major trends that you need to take into consideration now.
