I almost hesitated to write this article because I know how many of your think. You’ve heard and read - what is mostly stuff that will waste your time - on how to beat the search engines.
But in the way I’m going to show you, it is not tricks or ways to get you in trouble, but when you see it, you’ll wonder why you haven’t thought of it before.
But first you have to understand this one aspect of how Google works. Why you might rank high on one search engine and not be able to even be in the game on another; specifically Google.
Here’s the secret: Google’s algorithms prefer websites that have been around longer. That’s it. There is simply, no matter what anybody may tell you, no way to overcome this unless Google changes their policy and way of doing things.
So what is happening is that you are fighting something that for the most part, cannot be overcome except by being around with your site for awhile. Building up links takes time, that’s all there is to it.
Does this mean that all is hopeless? Not at all; there is a way to overcome this problem.
The answer is that you have to find a website that has been around awhile and that fits in with your theme and/or products and then 301 redirect it to your new site using .htaccess. That way the age of the website is transferred to your new one. Now in the eyes of the search engines your site has been around for awhile.
Essentially what you are buying is time and the links that come with it. Do this and you’ll get all the benefits of the site that you picked to do this. And there is absolutely nothing that is frowned upon by Google in doing this that may get you off of their engines.
Mark at 15 degrees-north has a good article talking about this also.
