A mild backlash is settling in against tech giants Microsoft Corp., Yahoo Inc., Cisco Systems Inc. and Google Inc. for allegedly aiding the Chinese in rooting out political dissidents.a
I say mild because there are a few that are trying to make it into something much bigger than it really is.a
In a report written by Foster Klug AP writer, he says that the “Four U.S. tech giants eager for a foothold in China's booming Internet market face hard questions Wednesday from lawmakers worried that China uses American technology to crush internal political dissent.”a
Wow! What was that statement based upon? Here is how he reports it:“China says its aims are benign _ to protect its citizens, and especially children, from "the immoral and harmful content" of the Internet.”
”Critics say the limits imposes go further and are aided by companies. They point to a new Google search engine that censors some results. Yahoo, they say, helped police identify and convict a journalist who had criticized human rights abuses.”
a
So from some of the above comments, these four huge tech companies are ‘crushing’ political dissent. How? First Yahoo supposedly enabled the Chinese police to arrest one journalist. Then the “damaging” testimony that that Google search engines censors some results.
a
So what. I go to my online account and make sure I have censors in place so that my grandchildren don’t have access to certain sites and searches also. Am I “crushing” the internal family dissent because of it? That’s the reasoning put forth here.
