I am still sometimes confounded by this simple mistake that a lot of people still make that are attempting to build an online business. The two things that are essential to even begin are sometimes not even paid attention to. I am talking about having your own website and your own domain name.a
What made me think of this again was when I was surfing and came across a well-known TV pundit that had a website. So I went there to check it out and was someone stunned to find out that his site, while having his name on it, was one of those free ones that have their own advertising on it in exchange for hosting it for free.a
So even the design of the site was not his but the hosting company’s with only a few options that anybody that got the service were allowed to include in the design. In other words there were several that hundreds of thousands of people employed that all looked alike.a
This is fine if you want to talk about your cat and show a few personal pictures of your family etc., but to use this as your business site and contact point is very unwise.a
Not only was their design options that could not give your company a unique flavor, but the name was also generic. You know; you had to have your name with the company name included with it. This is not the way to begin or run an online business that you want someone to take seriously.

I am a real stickler for cutting costs to the bone and running a business to make a profit, as much as anybody else. But in this area you just need to shell out the few dollars a month it will cost to have your own unique site with its own unique domain name. This is just the price of entry into online marketing. Make sure you’re willing to pay it!
